I Kissed Dating Goodbye Part 5: Relational Integrity

In Chapter Five of I Kissed Dating Goodbye, Joshua Harris asserts that girls would be shocked to find out the lengths that guys go to create relational situations that they can capitalize on for their own gain. In Chapter Seven, Harris tells a story of a youth pastor, directing them to commodify their sexual activity by ranking it on a scale of 1-10, after which Joshua’s friends proceeded to name the specific girls they had been intimate with.

America is a capitalistic society whose values have seeped deep into even our most intimate relationships. Rather than standing up for the girls his buddies were maligning, Joshua instead simply held an inner disdain for their “lack of purity.” I Kissed Dating Goodbye is a study of focusing on the entirely wrong things. Instead of focusing on maintaining a purity none of us possesses in the first place, we need to focus on developing relational integrity.
