Is Matt Walsh A Christian?
Although Matt Walsh claims to be a "Christian" his actions say otherwise. The Bible says the name you call yourself doesn't matter, your fruit does. So what kind of fruit is Matt Walsh producing?
Matt Walsh claims to be a “Christian.” Theoretically, that is supposed to mean someone who seeks to model their life after Jesus Christ and/ or follow his teachings. Yet, Jesus himself said that many people would try and claim to be his disciples, but were in fact what he called “false prophets” or “wolves in sheep’s clothing.”
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. (Matt 7:15-20)
And what is the fruit that we are supposed to be looking for?
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (Gal 5:22-23)
So, when determining whether someone is a Christian or not, the name they call themselves doesn’t matter. Being a Christian doesn’t have anything to do with the music that you listen to, books that you (pretend to) read, how many times you go to church, which church you go to, how many Bible verses you can quote (even Satan knows the Bible) or how many crosses you use to decorate your home. Heck even being a pastor doesn’t necessarily make you a Christian.
Anyone can claim to be anything they want. The thing that sets genuine followers apart from the false prophets is the fruit that they bear. So, what kind of fruit does Matt Walsh bear? Well, for starters, Walsh recently made a documentary called “What Is A Woman?” In doing so, he tried to trick the Trans community into being interviewed for his documentary by flat out lying to them about what he was doing. Not just once, either. Instead, he created an extremely elaborate shell game to hide his true intentions, which have been well documented here.
Now, I don’t personally believe that lying is always wrong, I think that it was fully appropriate for Germans in WWII to flat out lie their asses off about hiding Jews. I fully believe there is such a thing as a “righteous lie” but I don’t think that’s what Matt Walsh did. In fact, the Bible says that there are only seven things God hates.
There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. (Prov 6:16-19)
What’s interesting is that I don’t see anything on this list about changing your body or who you sleep with. It seems that what God looks at is not what you do or what you say, but the condition of your heart - or why you do it. In fact, once again, it even says that in the Bible.
The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Sam. 16:7b)
So, what I’m picking up here is that it’s not what you do that matters so much as why you do it. And here’s the problem. Walsh does, in fact, touch on some things that are incredibly troubling to the Trans community itself. Two actual members of the Trans community recently posted a video where they discussed how horrific it is that pharmaceutical companies and predatory doctors are targeting young children. So, these are people that genuinely care about the young people that are being harmed by gender transitioning becoming a fad.
If Walsh had come alongside the Trans community as an ally, helping them to address a serious issue; he might have actually demonstrated some of that fruit of the spirit, like love, kindness, goodness and gentleness. Instead, Walsh chose to troll not just the Trans community but women in general. What’s interesting is that “Christian” men like to label themselves protectors and providers, yet if you ask the most vulnerable populations who they get the most hate from, it is almost invariably from people that call themselves “Christians.” In fact, the biggest threat to women and children on this planet is men. The exact same people that love to bill themselves as “protectors." Men are protectors in much the same way the mafia is.
In that list of things God hates “haughty eyes” is frequently translated as a proud look; so not just pride but more like cockiness or arrogance, or outward expressions of pride. There are few words that I feel sum Matt Walsh up better than cocky and arrogant. He also takes pride in being “controversial” which is just another way of saying that he takes pride in doing another thing God hates: stirring up conflict in the community.
God also hates a lying tongue, such as when Walsh lied to the trans community about his intentions, which also required a heart that devised wicked schemes. He also just could not wait to get to women’s marches to stir up shit, so it would seem he also has feet that are quick to rush into evil.
All in all, it seems like the only thing Matt Walsh didn’t do is spill innocent blood. Although considering how high the suicide rates already are in the most vulnerable populations, that too is questionable.
In short, I’m not sure it’s really the Trans community that God is or would be most displeased with here - or ever. The Trans community may be many things, but they are not generally known for hurting others or even attempting to hurt them. I don’t think the same can be said for Matt Walsh. He seems to take a particularly glee in humiliating people.
Why does Walsh care so much about what a woman is?
It would be at least somewhat understandable if he had made a video asking the question “what is a man?” After all, he himself is a man and there are trans men, so he could have covered all the same ground by shining a spotlight on himself and “his kind” but he didn’t. Which is exactly the problem.
It’s one thing for men to decide for themselves what it means to be a man, or how men choose to define themselves, but it is an entirely different thing for men to believe that they have the right to define what it means to be a woman - as men have been doing for centuries. What he’s really mad about- as are all the men who gleefully watch his video - is that women are not only rejecting man’s definition of what the terms “man” and “woman” should mean, but their right to apply labels at all.
Men would love to reduce the question down to just a collection of body parts - but they are also the ones that created the terms “masculine” and “feminine.” Which means that when we talk about what a woman or a man is, we’re also talking about what it means to be “masculine” or “feminine.” So what we’re talking about is not just biology but how someone is expected to move through the world as determined by their gender; as determined by men. Which, ironically, is where we get transgenderism in the first place!
The idea behind being “transgendered” is that a person feels they were born in the wrong body. In other words, everything you are told about what it means to inhabit one body is completely contrary to what you feel your innate nature to be. So here’s the question:
Who decided what it is “supposed” to mean to live in a certain body in the first place?
Men did, that’s who. How do I know this? Because for centuries now, all the priests, pastors, scholars, lawyers, philosophers, doctors, scientists, theoretical physicist, fashion designers or anyone else that could potentially be involved in defining the differences between “men” and “women” have all been men. In addition, while the Bible certainly refers to man and woman, it never specifically relates anything to “masculine” or “feminine.” Over and over in the Bible God clearly demonstrates the same “rules,” laws or commandments for everyone.
God never makes one set of rules for women and another for men, so why does it matter what a woman is? The New Testament does talk about wives - meaning one individual wife, but it does not make “rules” for women that are different from men. Although throughout history, men have certainly twisted scripture plenty of times to make it seem that way. And this is at at the heart of why Walsh and other men like him are so obsessed with having a concrete definition of what a woman is. To maintain their own pecking order.
What I find just mind boggling, however, is that Twitter user Wokal Distance clearly believes it is ridiculous to even question what a man or woman is, yet sums up the argument perfectly, but still can’t seem to understand it.
“The woke think these categories were arbitrarily constructed by the dominant group in society (straight white men) in order to set up society in the way that makes everyone conform to the straight white male ideal of how things should be.”
Yes! Exactly! Only we don’t just “think” it, that’s literally what happened.
It’s crazy to me that while he mocks “wokeism” he is also clearly blind to the truth which he actually speaks and yet somehow still does not understand!
What men have historically decided are things like men can play sports and women can’t; or more recently, we have to have men’s sports and women’s sports because men can play sports better than women. And who decided this? Well, men did. And they used male doctors and the so-called findings of male physiologists and other so-called male “professionals” to “prove” women can’t play sports as well as men.
Then they make sure women can never compete with them so we can actually find out if it’s true or not. If men genuinely believed they were superior, then they should be delighted to compete with women. Instead, men decided they should be strong, tough and fierce; while women are dainty, delicate and weak and then made sure it became true.
Historically, men have taken boys hunting and fishing and hiking while girls sat at home and sewed, crocheted, knitted, read or played with dolls. Even more importantly, however, they have made sure to dress girls and women in ways that prevented them from being able to comfortably engage in physical activities.
Like with full, many-layered dresses or corsets that keep them from breathing. Fun fact: when you take boys out to do physical activities and force girls to engage in sedentary activities, boys become stronger than girls. That doesn’t mean it’s actually true that boys are stronger than girls, it means that men have made sure it has been true.
Men decided they are intellectually superior and women are emotional and prone to being psychologically unstable. And who decides what constitutes “mental instability”? Well, men of course, because since the dawn of psychology, all the psychologists have been men. What’s worse, however, is that religious men have also perpetuated the notion that it isn’t men that have decided these things but God.
But it’s literally not true. You will not find anywhere in the Bible where it says or even implies that women are inferior to men, but you can find all kinds of instances in Christianity where it is either stated or implied. The Bible also never says anything about the roles of men and women, like that women are supposed to “keep house” while men go off to work or that men play sports while women shop or sew. These are all gender ideals created by men.
Fundamentalist religion is most likely the cause of gender dysphoria.
My guess is that if you look at where most transgendered individuals come from (prior to about the last 5 years when it has literally become a fad) you’ll probably find the highest number of them come out of fundamentalist religion or culture. Why? Because fundamentalist religion always promotes the most rigid gender roles. That’s largely what it means to be fundamentalist is that there are certain unchangeable, invariable fundamentals to religion that cannot be argued with or questioned.
Fundamentalism teaches that to argue with these fundamental principles is to argue with or challenge God. Throughout the Bible, however, God has shown a desire to be fought with, wrestled with, argued with and challenged. God seems to desire that kind of genuine interaction. But small men create small gods and small men cannot stand being challenged, which is why they create small gods just like themselves.
The truth is, we all have a purpose give us by God. Men have taken it upon themselves, however, to decide who is allowed to pursue which purpose. So it is actually men that stand in the way of God, rather than people that pursue a calling contrary to what men decided they should have.
If a girl in a liberal community decided she wanted to play football, her dad may very well support her and even help her try to sway coaches and school districts. Therefore, she doesn't feel she is in the wrong body because of what she desires, she rightly deduces society is wrong in saying that girls “can’t” play football. If a girl in a conservative community decides she wants to play football, her father would be much more likely to force her into cheerleading instead in order to preserve his own standing in the community.
He will tell her that her desire is wrong because she is a girl. In that case, she may well decide that her desire is right but her body is not. She would be wrong, but the longer she lives with that belief, the more deeply it will become ingrained. It won't just be one thing, either. She will spend years of her life being told that all the things she deeply believes she is meant to do can’t be “from God” when men have decided that only men can do those things.
The truth is, there is nothing wrong with her desire or her body but that’s not what patriarchal culture will tell her. They will tell her the desire she has is wrong for the body she inhabits. Over time, this can create an almost unbearable inner conflict.
If a boy lives in a liberal community and decides he wants to wear lipstick or sequined outfits or be a fashion designer, he very well may have a father that supports him and encourages him. Which means he also doesn’t feel he is in the wrong body, he rightly deduces society is wrong in telling him he is not supposed to want to do those things. If a boy in a conservative community wanted to act in the same fashion, he very well might be beaten by his father or sent to some kind of “reeducation camp” to straighten him out or toughen him up. Once again, to preserve the father’s standing in the community.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. (Phil 2:3-4)
It’s a pretty sad irony when men in liberal communities, who may or may not consider themselves to be “Christian” treat their children with far more grace and compassion than those that claim to be followers of Christ.
But Matt Walsh and others like him cannot handle the fact that not only might they be wrong about what it means to be a man or woman, they don’t have the right to make the “rules” in the first place! God created each and every one of us. We are all different, special and unique in our own way. It is not Matt Walsh’s right or anyone else’s for that matter to determine what it means to inhabit anyone else’s body or what GOD wants for anyone other than Matt Walsh. It is ironic that conservative Christians have used the word “snowflake” as a derisive term to label “liberals” - when in fact, snowflakes are tiny, fragile, individually unique masterpieces. Just like all of God’s children are.
What’s sad is that Walsh’s documentary could have been a poignant, touching, wake-up call to the dangers of allowing children to be preyed upon and exploited by the medical industrial complex. Instead Walsh has to take a holier-than-thou stance and denigrated a vulnerable population with a leering frat boy arrogance. What Walsh and his frat buddies are mostly mad about is that women are throwing off their patriarchal entitlement. We are no longer bowing to their decisions about what it means to be a certain gender and how everyone is “supposed” to act based on that.
Men want it to be easy, they want it to be simple, largely because they want to be able to just quickly look at someone and determine where they fit in the “pecking order.” Men want clearly defined labels because they want clearly defined hierarchies. It’s the same reason men wear uniforms, with badges and symbols and emblems that immediately tell them who is important and who isn’t.
Men also want the confidence of knowing when they publicly sexually harass someone, it’s actually a woman they are sexually harassing. The more difficult it is to discern a person’s gender, the more likely they are to end up looking like a fool when the person they publicly harass turns out to be another man or Trans woman. So ultimately, their obsession with clearly defined genders has more to do with protecting their own self-image than caring about anyone else.
Does anyone actually believe that Matt Walsh made this movie out of a genuine desire to see women honored and cherished? Or am I alone in seeing that it smacks of pride, arrogance and a desire to paint women and the Trans community as psychologically unbalanced and unstable? While it is true that even women have a difficult time defining exactly what it means to be a woman, it is because we are rejecting the definitions created by men, but are still working to come up with one of our own. Ultimately, however, that is our right as women.
Regardless of what he calls himself, I think based on what the Bible has to say about what it looks like to be a follower of Jesus, how followers of Jesus act and the kind of fruit followers of Jesus produce, I think it’s fair to call Matt Walsh a false prophet; or a wolf very, very poorly disguised in sheep’s clothing.
For a far more gracious and nuanced look at this problem, I highly recommend this four-part series.
so you're saying he's a false Christian because he asks leftists what a woman is? He obviously knows what it is idiot, they're just trying to reidentify the word to mean something completely different and he's fighting for us. plus he quotes the bible many times and i don't think that a "wolf in sheep's clothing" would be so devoted. All the videos that you linked weren't from the Daily Wire, and were most likely false information. God also doesn't like when people talk trash about his disciples. so maybe take the log out of your eye before trying to take the splinter out of your brother's eye.
So, you don’t believe God made men and women differently then? Because that is Matt Walsh’s whole point. We’re different. Women are created for a specific purpose. Men are created for a specific purpose. Men are called to lead, provide for and protect his wife. Women are called to submit to and to be a helpmeet. Women are also nurturers and bear children. Doesn’t mean men and women can’t have similar characteristics to the opposite sex. They absolutely can, but denying their God given gender is a problem.
