Love & Respect Part 3: The Kernel of Truth

2

The reason religion is so damaging is because men take a kernel of truth and wrap it in a bunch of rules that are designed to give themselves power and authority. All the way back in Leviticus when God first give Moses the 10 Commandments, it wasn't long before men had wrapped a gift God gave His people in a bunch of rules man created to give themselves power. Rules that Jesus got in trouble for breaking many times. He broke them because they were never God’s laws in the first place, they were man’s rules. Rules they never had a right to make in the first place.

In Love & Respect, Emerson Eggerichs takes a kernel of truth and wraps it in a massive shell of his own design. Today, we dig down deep to find that kernel of truth and unwrap it from all of the packaging placed on it by Eggerichs.

Many thanks to Sarah D. for pointing me to Sheila Gregoire’s podcast about the study Eggerichs mentions in his book, which you can find here.

I have a new Instagram account just for this podcast, which you can find at @robinthinkspod and I’ll have a Twitter account soon under the same name!

Too many Christians are taught to not question religious authority, which means they are taught to not use critical thinking skills. Most books have something beneficial to offer, but many also contain destructive or damaging teachings and Christians aren't taught to separate the two. In this podcast we will deconstruct some of the most popular Christian books to uncover what is worth keeping and what needs to be thrown away.
