I’m in the first few minutes of the podcast and I just have to say, you are giving Eggerichs too much credit in the way you phrase his premise. He doesn’t even elevate love to something women NEED. In the very title of his book he says that respect is something that men NEED but love is something that women DESIRE (want). So hers isn’t even a need. It’s just a want. 🤬

Boy, that is a really good point! Sadly, there is just SO MUCH wrong with this book, it’s nearly impossible to even find ALL the things. I only got halfway through the first chapter in the first episode because I already spent so much time on just the introduction alone. I feel like all you have to do is write a book that strokes men’s egos and you have a best-seller on your hands. Who cares if it damages women??

Definitely. It’s so toxic and harmful. Have you listened/read Sheila Gregoire’s stuff about it, including her open letter to FotF?

I haven’t listened to that specifically but I am very familiar with Sheila Gregoire and I have heard her mention L&R. I stopped listening to podcasts for a long time, I think maybe because the only podcasts I ever listened to were sermons. When I stopped listening to those, I stoppped listening to all podcasts. I’m just now getting back into them again and am just finishing up Rise & Fall of Mars Hill. I only recently discovered Sheila had a podcast, so I think I will put it into my queue. I’m a binger, I don’t really like hopping from show to show, I like to watch/ listen to an entire season of something at once, so that should be a good addition! Thanks!

Her podcast is really good but her open letter was posted on her blog - here it is if you’d like to read it. It’s long but good. https://baremarriage.com/2020/01/open-letter-focus-on-the-family-love-respect-emerson-eggerichs/
